In the Early 1980's, Bob Wieland started his Journey across America, 3,000 miles on his arms. His Journey took 3 years, 6 months, and 8 days. Bob finished in Washington, D.C. at the Vietnam Vets Memorial, at the name of a fallen comrade. While in Vietnam, Bob was bringing his friend in from the battle field, when he stepped on a live 82mm mortar round. His legs went one way and his life went another.
As Bob's personal trainer and therapist, we accomplished the New York and Los Angeles City Marathons, the Iron Man Triathlon course, Race Across America (R.A.A.M) [Arm Cycling]. Bob was also nominated US Track & Field Athlete of the Year in 1988 and recipient of the Prestigious Victory Award, as well as a world record in the Bench Press of 507lbs, competing against lifters with legs. Bob never gives up, no matter how tough the journey may be. This quality in Bob has greatly influenced my life. This is why I dedicate this page to Bob Wieland, "World Champion"......personal friend. |
